For the first time in a decade the Burgundy and black are bringing home a state championship in Men’s basketball, with a 69-68 nail biter win over favorite Agassi prep Saturday in Reno.
Trailing by eight points with just a minute to go, West Wendover simply would not be denied this year. The Wolverines clawed their way back to the lead with three steals and then trailing by a single point too the lead with an eight foot floater from Senior Corey Bostock.
The team then played a suffocating defense as Agassi tried and failed to recapture the lead in the final seconds.
The Wolverines are coached by Scott Carsrud.
Roster: Manuel Flores, Justin Kidd,Corey Bostock, Kaydn Sharp, Sean McGahey, Avery Arrien, Javier Haro, Daniel Sanchez, Kylar Sharp, Juvencio Flores, Chuy Limon, Adrian Enriquez.

That was one of the best games I have ever watched…period. To be down by 8 with less than two minutes to go and then come back to win was amazing! Justin Kidd was the X factor over the two days. Corey’s jumper to go up by one in the championship game was ‘clutch’. Chuy’s leadership and good attitude lifted the team and Shawn’s three point shooting kept everyone on the opposing teams guessing. Lastly, Avery’s ball handling was solid. This team had a great year and an even better attitude through the entire year. Nobody was selfish. They ALWAYS made the ‘right’ pass and were ‘clutch’ during key moments. Way to go, team!
Couldn’t agree more Boatman. These guys deserved this title hands down. Lets hope for more state champs to come, in our Wolverine nation. -Alumni state champ
Adan, I didn’t see you there! What the heck. You should have come. It was the game of a life time. You know I’m a sports nut and I’ve never seen a game like that before. I guys just refused to give up. Even as a fan in the crowd, I thought it was all but over. Luckily, our guys have other plans. A big “shout out” to Carsrud, Peterson and Sharp for their coaching efforts. It all starts when their little and the coaches have established a rock solid program. I just hope the underclassmen see what the possibilties are when you practice and play hard. I’m proud of our kids for the way they played, but will even be more proud in June when the SENIORS of 2012 graduate and move on to colleges. Way to go WOLVERINES!
OOPS, corrections (lifetime, Our guys, they’re little). I was typing too fast. lol
