WWHS student Tianah Sweat came out on top of 52 entrants across Elko County in an anti-drug use slogan contest sponsored by the PACE coalition and the federal Office of National Drug Control Policy.
PACE Coalition is the only Nevada partner with the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s Above the Influence youth anti-drug campaign.
The first activities took place in October when PACE Prevention Coordinator Chellie Smietana held “Be It” sessions for teens in Elko and West Wendover. During the sessions, the teens were asked to create slogans that said something about who they are and why they are above the influence of harmful substances.
40 Elko High School students and 12 West Wendover High School students participated.

“Be It” designers selected the favorite designs from their schools.
The selected designs were submitted to an independent panel of Elko area teens that chose the top designs.
The national Above The Influence organization created advertisements based on slogans.
“I am above … And beyond,” created by Tianah Sweat of West Wendover, was chosen to be put on a billboard in Elko County.
The billboard artwork was also used to create a vinyl banner for West Wendover High School.
“Weeds Are Meant to be Whacked,” by Alyssa Jangard, 17, and “High on Life, Not Drugs,” by Sierra Dumas, 16, both of Elko High School, will be incorporated in radio commercials to be broadcast in Elko County.
