Newmont’s “Golden Chopper” was unveiled Tuesday to a roaring crowd and a press embargo at Elko’s outside of Elko’s Red Lion Casino.
The gold plated modified motorcycle was greeted by a crowd of about 3,000 but because of contractual obligations with the television show “American Chopper” Newmont cannot release photos of the bike itself until after the episode first airs on April 9 on the Discovery Channel.
Newmont also requested that all local media outlets not to publish photos or videos of the bike until the episode airs.
“We understand completely,” said Advocate Publisher Howard Copelan. “It’s a beautiful bike but we can wait a week or two to publish the photos.”
The embargo does not however extend to private persons web pages and photos of the chopper have been published on face book and a video of the event is now on youtube.
