A damaged power line located in Southern Idaho was the reason for a series of power failures Monday in Wendover that brought school to an early close.

The line located 16 miles south of the Bridge Substation is jointly owned by the Raft River Electric Cooperative and Bonneville Power.

Wells Rural Electric owners in Wendover, Utah, and West Wendover, Nevada, experienced outages on Monday. Both were the result of a damaged power line located on the Raft River Rural Electric Cooperative’s (RRREC) section of the shared transmission line that feeds power to the area.

The second outage was planned by RRREC to permanently fix the damaged line. The outage, scheduled at 3 p.m. to last roughly an hour, started at 3:17 p.m. and lasted until 4:18 p.m.

“WREC Management always seeks to avoid any inconvenience caused by unanticipated outages,” wrote co-op spokesman Garrett Hylton in a Tuesday press release. “The Cooperative has a long history of providing reliable energy at the lowest possible cost, but sometimes circumstances arise outside of the WREC service territory grid that cannot be foreseen.

If there is any interruption to your service and you have not been notified by Wells Rural Electric Company, you may speak directly with a Member Services Representative at their 24 hour customer service number 1-(800)566-6696 as soon as possible.”
