A West Wendover girl once at the bottom of her class became the top cadet in Naval Basic Training.
Sarah Fyke a 2010 graduate of West Wendover High School was given the singular honor of carrying her basic training class banner during graduation last month in Pennsicola, Florida.
Leading her platoon of cadets was a far cry from 2010 when the girl was not allowed to walk with her classmates at the WWHS graduation ceremony.
But instead of being knocked down by the disappointed ment Fyke buckled down and won her diploma that same summer by taking an extra heavy class load.
She then went to Job Corp training in Idaho graduating this February and joined the navy.
She now heads to Japan for advanced training.
