In an anti-climatic business like vote the Ely City Council overrode Mayor Jon Hickman’s veto of termination of Ely City Manager/Clerk Jim Alworth in Thursday’s meeting.

While Hickman vetoed the first termination vote on the grounds that Alworth had not been present to defend himself, the now and again former City Manager said nothing before during or after the vote.

  1. Seemed like a waste of time to me for the mayor to veto his original firing. He said it was on the grounds of Alworth not being there to defend himself and yet he (Alworth) had nothing to say this time around!

  2. Think about it, he said nothing and his attorney was present. Time for the city council to start sweating bullets. Too many ethical violations pending and upcoming. The city council is clueless. Trying to make too many changes too soon with little knowledge about the big picture.

  3. What big picture?

Ely, a town with half of the commercial property boarded up. The rest of the town looks like a “shanty town”. Residential property falling apart. Banks refuse to lend money for development and growth.

What are you talking about the “THE BIG PICTURE”.

Ely has potential. But the leadership, both business and political seem to have and are doing everything in their power to destroy. It seems that they feel that it is not in their best interest, that there may be God forbid competition. Well the truth of the matter is, the economy, our community is not a zero sum game. In reality if we work together towards growth and development it will become a win win win. That one plus one is not two, but will become ten, one hundred, ten thousand, a billion. That is the result of looking and acting within the “BIG PICTURE”
