White Pine County Commissioners John Lampros and Mike Lemich could find themselves running for re-election this year if a group of county residents are successful in garnering enough signatures on recall petitions.

Filed this week with the County Clerk the notice of recall is the first step in removing an elected official from office.

The filers are James T. Adams of Ely, Timothy McGowan of Lund and Cheryl Noriega also of Ely.

To force a recall election the petition must have signatures at least 25 percent of the number of voters voting in the last general election. Signers must be registered voters of White Pine County. In Lampros and Lemich cases the magic number is about 650 signatures to force a recall election.

Should the recall drive be successful, the election could be a close call for both men.

Spurred by a facebook page White Pine & Ely Politics (hit link on right) dedicated to local politics and encouraged by a resounding victory in the Ely City elections a grassroots local reform movement is gaining momentum in White Pine County. Both petitions published below cite various examples of malfeasance in office for the two commisioners.
