One man is in custody and another may be at large following a brazen midnight robbery of the Montego Bay Casino.
Anthony Vera, 37, is wanted by police for his role in the robbery of Montego Bay near midnight Wednesday night.
Another man, Elbert Woodson, 38, of Wendover, Utah, the driver of the get away car was arrested near the Salt Lake airport exit on I-80 following a high speed chase. Vera jumped from the vehicle and is still free as of this posting. According to sources close to the investigation there is perhaps a third suspect, a woman, who may have also been traveling in the vehicle.
According to West Wendover Police reports Vera approached the cashier’s cage, jumped the counter, grabbed a cash box and fled the casino with an undetermined amount of cash. Additional information indicated the suspect entered a vehicle and headed eastbound on I-80. The suspect was described as a male with paint or a mask on his face, wearing a black hooded jacket and blue jeans.
An attempt to locate was passed to Tooele County Sheriff Department. Preliminary information indicates an Utah Highway Patrol Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle near mile post 83 on I-80 (approximately 83 miles east of West Wendover, NV), which resulted in a pursuit. Preliminary information indicates the pursuit continued eastbound on I-80 and one suspect, Vera, exited the vehicle during the pursuit. The vehicle later crashed and there is apparently evidence in the vehicle connecting it to the casino theft.
“A second suspect is not known at the time of the robbery,” said WWPD Chief Burdel Welsh. “But from the pursuit, there were two people in the car.”
According to sources close to the investigation the robbery may have been an inside job. The photo used by police in their wanted poster comes from the files of casino workers and that Vera’s identity was provided from an unnamed source who was either involved in the crime or who had knowledge of it.
Vera is described as a 37 year old Hispanic man with a tatoo “Sin City” across his chest. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 165 lbs.
His accomplice, Woodson, was arrested last November on the charge of cheating at gambling at the Wendover Nugget.
The loss amount exceeds $650, but the actual amount is undetermined.
