A Wendover man described last week as a dangerous Florida gangster was arrested hours after being released from jail for being a dangerous Nevada driver.
Wesley Bonilla-Rosado was in the Elko County Jail awaiting extradition to Florida on unspecified felony charges following his arrest at a West Wendover apartment last Tuesday.
According to a WWPD press release Bonilla-Rosado was involved in a fight in a local casino but fled before police could arrive. He was identified along with his outstanding warrant from the state of Florida.
The no bail warrant described Bonilla-Rosado as a fugitive from justice and as a dangerous gang member.
However when Florida law enforcement was contacted after Bonilla-Rosado’s arrest they refused extradition and instead released any hold based on the time Bonilla-Rosado already served in jail.
Within hours of his release from the Elko County Jail on February 7th West Wendover Police were again dispatched to a local residence for a report of a hit and run.
During the investigation the suspect identified as Wesley Bonilla-Rosado. When the investigating officer asked Bonilla to put the vehicle in park and turn off the engine, Bonilla sped off at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the vehicle into a cul-de-sac where Bonilla then led officers on a foot pursuit. After Bonilla climbed a fence he hid under a nearby tarp where officers promptly found him and placed him into custody.
Bonilla was charged with DUI, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended driver’s license, reckless driving, and failure to stop upon signal of an officer. Bonilla was returned to the Elko County Jail with bail total of $4,465.00
