lockdown-gunlocks-04The West Wendover Police Department has free gun locks available for the public. These gun locks will help secure any pistol or rifle and keep them safe if they get into the hands of children. The gun lock itself is another tool for the firearm owner to have to insure no accidents occur if a child does gain access to a gun. Even with the use of the gun lock, all firearms should be stored in a locked gun safe or other storage area away from children.

The gun locks were made available through a program called Project Child Safe. Project Child Safe is a nationwide program that promotes safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearm owners through the distribution of safety education messages and free firearm safety kits. The kits include a cable-style gun-locking device and a brochure (also available in Spanish) that discusses safe handling and storage. Since 2003, the project has partnered with local law enforcement agencies to distribute more than 36 million safety kits to gun owners in all 50 states and five U.S. territories. – See more at: www.projectchildsafe.org

These gun locks are being made available on a first come first served basis. To obtain your free gun lock, come to the West Wendover police department front office and ask for a free gun lock kit.
