A gang of three Salt lake area women were busted in Wendover this Memorial Day for running a mobile check forgery plant from inside their car, reported WWPD.

Alicia Timms, Rhonda Elliot, and Jaqualine Long were arrested at the Red garter Casino on various charges stemming from their attempt to cash a phony check at the cashier cage.

According to West Wendover Police reports, officer’s from the West Wendover police department responded to a local casino to investigate a report of a patron attempting to cash an alleged fraudulent check.

During the investigation officer’s identified Alicia Timms of Taylorsville Utah, as well as Rhonda Elliot and Jacqueline Long both from Salt Lake City Utah.

wrecfraudDuring interviews with witnesses and the three females involved it was learned that Timms had attempted to cash two checks from two different companies on the same day. Both checks were examined and allegedly counterfeit. Timms was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance.

Elliot was in possession of two alleged counterfeit payroll checks as well as drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance.

Long was in possession of two alleged counterfeit payroll checks.

A vehicle registered to Long was found to have computer equipment which was believed to be used to create the payroll checks. This equipment was seized for further investigation into the fraudulent activity.

Check forgery has become a multi-billion dollar scam in the United States and casinos are specially targeted during holidays and three day weekends with thieves counting on the high volume of tourists cashing legitimate checks.
