Long distance land line phone service throughout much of northeastern Nevada could be caused by faulty repairs on a cable done a month ago.
At least that is what West Wendover Police Chief Burdel Welsh surmised, the phone company Frontier Communications really isn’t communicating.
“We started having problems with long distance about two months ago,” Welsh said. “I believe it coincided with a cable break but even after it was supposed to be repaired it is still difficult sometimes to make a long distance call over our land lines.”
The West Wendover Police Department is not alone. According Wells Rural Electric spokesman Garrett Hylton his phone service is also spotty.
“Sometimes I have to try two or three times to get a connection,” he said last week.
“I have complained several times to a recording from the phone company,” said High Desert Advocate Publisher Howard Copelan. “No one has yet returned my calls.”
There could however be a solution to the faulty phone line according to Centra Com’s Nate Palmer. Centra Com runs Wendover Utah’s land lines and is also the cable television franchise for Wendover, Utah and West Wendover, Nevada
