A Spring Creek girl is safe and more or less sound after allegedly being sexually abused by her step-father.
“Sometime in Friday evening the girl told her mother that she was molested by her step father (Joshua D. Hall),” said Elko Sheriff’s Detective Nick Czegledi. “Her mother took her to the emergency room and then she called us.”
Detectives left immediately to interview the child and her mother at the hospital. After the interview the detectives decided they had enough to determine probable cause and asked for an arrest warrant from Elko Justice Court.
Hall who was working the night shift at a gold mine in Carlin was unaware of the unfolding events and stayed clueless until his company bus left him off at the parking lot Saturday morning.
“He put up no resistance,” Czegledi added.
Detectives think the assault was not an isolated incident, said Under-sheriff Clair Morris. They believe the 8-year-old is the only victim, and the abuse has been ongoing. A medical evaluation supported her claims, Morris said.
“It’s hard to investigate these things,” Morris said. “ … What this little girl went through was just not right.”
Hall was arrested for sexual assault against a child under 14, child abuse or neglect causing substantial bodily harm and lewdness with a child under 14. His bail was listed at $800,000.
