A 15 year old Henderson girl died Monday in a rollover near the Cherry Creek Road 47 miles north of Ely, reported the NHP
According to NHP spokesman Jim Stewart the accident occurred Monday at about 11 am.
“Preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Angela Brooks, age 18, from Las Vegas, NV, was driving a 2009 Mercury passenger car northbound on US93. A female Henderson, Nevada juvenile, age 15, was also in the car.” Stewart wrote in a press release. “For unknown reasons, Ms. Brooks crossed the center line and traveled off the left roadway edge. She over corrected the vehicle back onto the highway where it traveled across the southbound and northbound travel lanes. The vehicle then traveled off the right paved shoulder. Ms. Brooks over corrected the vehicle to the left in an attempt to regain the northbound travel lane. The Mercury rotated counterclockwise and overturned.
The female passenger, who was seated in the right front seat was ejected. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Ms. Brooks sustained minor injuries and was wearing her seatbelt.
The girl almost certainly would have survived if she had been wearing her seatbelt,” Stewart add. “Look at the car there is so much room to live.”
The driver of the car was picked up by her parents and returned home the day of the accident.
The two girls had been on their way north to visit relatives in the Elko area.
