Driver Education classes will be offered on line for West Wendover High School students this year by Great Basin College.

Nevada law requires anyone under age 18 to complete 30 hours of driver’s education before getting their initial driver’s license, and on-line courses are starting soon at Great Basin College.

jordanpostcard_edited-1Although learning to drive is a significant rite of passage there has been a small yet significant number of WWHS students postponing their licenses until later.

Bernadette Kunkel will instruct TT 109 Basic Driver Education starting August 4 followed by Christopher Murphy who is teaching a section that begins September 8. The GBC driver’s education curriculum stresses the danger of texting while driving and the risk associated with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Other topics include the rules of the road; becoming a defensive driver; how to drive in a roundabout; and how to purchase, insure, and maintain a vehicle. Two more driver’s education courses will be offered this fall beginning October 6 (instructed by Luke Sellers) and November 3 (instructed by Joe de Braga).

centraThe online driver’s education course fee is $50 for Nevada high school students, plus a $10 application fee. Participants should be a minimum of 15 years of age to enroll. Detailed information about how to register is available online at www.gbcnv.edu/drivers-ed. Students are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible as classes fill quickly.
