A McGill man was formally charged with the murder of a three month old baby boy almost a year after the infant’s death.
Michael Curtis, 34, of McGill was arrested in Salt Lake City on December 20, 2014 the same day his child identified only as baby John Doe died at the Primary Children’s Hospital of Salt Lake City.
The child was initially taken to the William B. Ririe Hospital in Ely on November 25th. After a preliminary exam emergency room staff notified the sheriff office alleging the infant appeared to have been brutally shaken to death.
White Pine County sheriff’s deputies say an arrest warrant for open murder and child abuse was issued for Curtis after an investigation found the child suffered injuries to his brain, abdomen, rib cage and legs.
Last week after being extradited back to Nevada Curtis was charged on one count of first degree premeditated murder and one count of open murder. Curtis trial date has not yet been set.
Curtis is eligible for the death penalty.
