A Utah man is in jail after breaking this cardinal rule in thieving: leave the scene of the crime!

Payne, Jason 42, West Valley Utah was arrested on one count of Grand Larceny at the Nuget Casino in Wendover.

According to police reports video surveillance depicted a male matching Payne’s description taking tools, a purse and other personal items belonging to the hotels employees out of the laundry/break room. While security staff and surveillance investigated the theft reports, a male matching the description of the suspect on video was located within the casino. Security detained this male and summoned the police for assistance. Payne elected to not comment or submit to an interview regarding the allegations against him.

On Monday officers received a complaint of a male using his company credit card to make unauthorized withdrawals. The owner of 4 Wheel Towing out of Salt Lake City reported that an employee identified as Jason Artez had withdrew over $1,100 from ATM’s within the casinos in West Wendover. Artez only had permission to use the card for employment purposes such as buying fuel or tools. Officer contacted Artez at the Montego Bay casino for an interview. Artez was subsequently taken into custody for embezzlement and fraudulent use of a credit card.
