Landyn Shepherd and Carlos Trujillo became the latest of Wendover’s sons and daughter to become United States Marines this week.
Recruit Shepherd graduated from Wendover High School and enlisted to become a Marine Corps Combat Engineer. Recruit Trujillo graduated from West Wendover High School and enlisted in Marine Corps Communications. Upon graduation for his Military Occupational School, Recruit Trujillo will receive a $5,000.00 Communications Bonus.
Like most land locked communities in the United States, Wendover has always sent the bulk of its military recruits to either the Navy or the Marines with the Marines far and away the most popular branch of the military.
The two young men entered their service on November 9th. On November 11th Landyn’s mother Karen Shepherd stood for the first time with Marine veterans and family of serving Marines in Veterans’ Day celebrations at the Wendover Air Base. (see photo below)
Wendover military men and woman have seen action in every major recent conflict fought by the United States including Iraq and Afghanistan.
There is also a large contingent of veterans of previous conflicts who did not live in Wendover at the time but later moved to town after they left their various services.
