An Ibapah woman was tasered and arrested Friday following an intermitent high speed chase through Wendover.
Michaela Murphy, 21, of Ibapah was booked into the Elko county Jail Friday on a almost $30,000 total bail charged with a bevy of traffic offenses and assaulting police officers with her car.
According to police reports, Murphy was spotted driving recklessly by WWPD Officers during the “Click it or Ticket” campaign on the Thanksgiving Holiday. “Click it or Ticket” is a state/federally funded event that puts more local police on the roads during high traffic holidays.
At about 10:00 am on Friday, West Wendover officers witnessed a vehicle driving in a reckless manner on Tibbets Boulevard.
An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the violator. The driver accelerated quickly in an attempt to elude officers. The driver travelled across several residential streets and into the business district on Wendover Boulevard. As the driver began to travel in excess of 80 miles per hour on roads with moderate traffic, the police called off the pursuit and began to follow the vehicle from a longer and safer distance. Once the officers caught up to and surrounded Michaela she backed her vehicle into a patrol car to continue to elude, which caused moderate damage to both vehicles. Police maintained a safe distance and followed Michaela west bound on Wendover Boulevard until they lost sight of her.
The vehicle was observed again in the residential area of the city. The driver attempted to hide by parking behind buildings, however when spotted again fled onto the streets.
Murphy finally stopped her vehicle in the 400 block of Mesa Avenue and exited her car. She ignored the officer’s commands, who eventually had to deploy the use of a Taser.
Michaela was examined by Wendover Ambulance after the Taser deployment. Michaela was transported to the Elko hospital for further evaluation due to a possible medical/mental disorder prior to being taken to the Elko county jail on several charges.
No officers were injured during this incident.
