The President Day weekend was an important one for West Wendover Wolverine sports, as it decided which wrestlers would go to state, and if either varsity basketball team would go to divisionals.
West Wendover High held the wrestling divisional tournament that Saturday, where it was decided that seven Wolverine wrestlers made it to State. Those wrestlers were: Ricardo Cervantes, weighing in at 120 lbs and taking third at the tournament, Lisandro Rojas, weighing in at 126 lbs and taking fourth, Carlos Quintero, weighing in at 152 lbs and taking third, Anthony Madina, weighing in at 160 lbs and taking second, Kodi Cook, weighing in at 182 lbs and taking fourth, Christopher Haycock, weighing in at 220 lbs and taking first, and Johnny Rodriquez, weighing in at 285 and taking third.
And so this past few days were important too, as the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team went to the playoffs, with a home game this past Friday on the nineteenth, and they have qualified for the State Tournament for the first time ever in the West Wendover School history.
