The Ladies White Pine Bobcats beats Incline, 44-43, Saturday February 27th, at Lawlor Events Center. They were defending their State Title. It was a harder win, but they did win.
Debra Kingston scored 20 points and Ashlyn Huntington added 15 for White Pine.
Huntington hit a 3-pointer with :42 seconds left to give White Pine a 42-40 lead. She then got a block and raced down the court, only to have Incline freshman Taylor Redfern steal the ball, then get fouled on a 3-point attempt with 16.7 seconds left. Redfern made all three free throws to give the Highlanders a 43-42 lead.
But Huntington drew a foul in the paint and made both of her free throws to give White Pine the winning margin.
“I was so thankful,” Huntington said of making those late free throws. “I was so nervous.”
She said she had a feeling the Bobcats would pull through.
“We’ve played some close games and we know how to escape,” she said.
She said the Bobcats have dealt with a lot of adversity all season and that helped in the game at Lawlor.
White Pine made of 10-of-13 free throws in Saturday’s game. Huntington said the Bobcats have struggled from the stripe all season, but made free throws a priority in practice.
Redfern finished with 24 points, including four 3-pointers. Incline was also 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
