SALT LAKE CITY- On March 10, 2016, approximately 450 AmeriCorps members from across the state will gather at the Radisson Hotel in celebration of National AmeriCorps Week, a week-long initiative aimed at recognizing the contribution of AmeriCorps members in local communities across the state.
UServeUtah in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service Utah Office will host the annual AmeriCorps Member Gathering, “Living a Life of Service,” at the Radisson Salt Lake City Downtown, 215 S. Temple. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 10.
Participants from AmeriCorps State and VISTA programs will convene for a day of workshops, networking, and service projects that will benefit numerous nonprofit organizations statewide, including: Volunteers of America, Utah; the Utah Food Bank; the Utah Health Policy Project; Primary Children’s Medical Center; the Red Cross; Fourth Street Clinic; and youth in corrections facilities.
AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity to salute AmeriCorps members and alumni for their service, thank AmeriCorps partners for their support, and communicate the impact of AmeriCorps on critical needs in Utah communities as well as in the lives of those individuals who serve. This year, AmeriCorps Week is being celebrated across the country March 5-12.
National Service Facts:
• 1,269 AmeriCorps members are currently serving across Utah communities.
• AmeriCorps members currently serve in over 300 local education, nonprofit, and government organizations.
In 2015:
• 152,382 Utah citizens were served by AmeriCorps members.
• 34,689 volunteers were mobilized by National Service Members. These volunteers served 532,574 hours.
• National Service Members leveraged $26 million in resources including grants, in- kind donations, value of volunteer hours, education awards given to members, federal funding and local program support.
