One person killed and two more in critical conditions, after a semi-trailer rig struck a car from behind, on Interstate 80 near Wendover.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Craig Ward, who was later at the scene, said early Friday morning, while it was still dark, the truck driver of a semi truck didn’t see a Dodge Neon, parked or going very slow on the right lane of the highway, and hit it from behind. The accident happened at the 23 miles marker east of Wendover Utah, at around 5:00 a.m. The big rig was traveling about 65 mph at the time. The driver of the semi, pulled over and called 911, and as he was uninjured, rushed back to check on the car and its occupants, said Sgt. Ward.
The collision crushed and propelled the car off the right side of the freeway, killing the 38-year-old male backseat passenger, Andy W. Lew, instantly. The 34-year-old female driver and a 35-year-old female passenger, were both critically injured. Both injured women were airlifted to two Salt Lake Hospitals. One to the Intermountain Medical Center Emergency, in Murray, the other one to the University Hospital Emergency, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
At this time there is no report from neither hospital of the progress of the injured.
