The (NCCC) team of ten Members, known as Silver Four, has been in Wells since April 27th and will be there until May 24th. During their time in town, the team will be improving local infrastructure through the construction of gutters and sidewalks, as well as assembling a pavilion in the historic downtown area.

The City of Wells works diligently to improve the quality of life for their citizens; prioritizing safety and attractiveness, as well as opportunities for growth and development. Although the city experienced many hardships following a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that rocked their town in 2008, they now hope to rebuild a stronger and better community.

Silver Four will be aiding the city in the implementation of its redevelopment plan that aims to improve accessibility and create a space that inspires pride in residents. The construction of sidewalks along Wells Avenue will connect the local senior center to the historic downtown, which holds the town square where the pavilion will be constructed. The newly developed town square will create a space for people to gather, as well as spark economic growth in the area. Although this is the first time the City of Wells has hosted an AmeriCorps NCCC team, they are going to great lengths to expose the team’s members to local culture.

Ben Dambach of Silver Four says, “The citizens of Wells have made me feel so at home. I’m excited to use the skills I gained prior to this program, while also acquiring new skills that I can use in my future.”

The programs are administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
