Sean M. Dean, 49, previously entered pleas of not guilty to five charges related to the December stabbings: attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon; battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm; two counts of battery with a deadly weapon; and battery resulting in substantial bodily harm.
An Elko man accused of assault, battery and burglary charges pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday at the Elko District Court.
Sean M. Dean, 49, will go to trial for six days in August. Dean faces seven charges: battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm; battery with a deadly weapon; assault with a deadly weapon; possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a felony offense; burglary with the use of a firearm; burglary; and being a habitual criminal.
The trial who was supposed to last about four days, will last six or more days, as Elko District Judge Nancy Porter decided to extend it by dividing itin two parts, for various reasons, mainly because of Dean was previously charged as a felon, so now he is a felon in possession of a firearm.
Dean cannot own a firearm because of his 2014 conviction of battery by means of strangulation, according to the criminal information filed in April.
Dean has been convicted of six felony crimes between 1986 and 2014 — including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem and the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle — in the states of Nevada and California.
The charges were from Nov. 12, 2015, when Dean reportedly struck Christina Hodges in the head and face with a handgun (or hard object), and causing prolonged physical pain, and permanent disfiguring her with a scar to her face.
Count three of assault with a deadly weapon alleges Dean drew, held, showed and or pointed a handgun at Hodges while acting in an aggressive manner and threatening her.
Both burglary charges state Dean entered a building on South Fifth Street to commit theft, and had the intent to assault Christina Hodges and Kyle Olsen.
Count five alleged Dean was in possession of a firearm or other deadly weapon while committing a crime at the residence.
Dean was due to appear last Tuesday at the Elko District Court in another case connected to a December arrest charging attempted murder.
