Newmont’s Long Canyon Project, between Wendover and Wells, is now officially operational, as a few days ago their first load of leach ore was dumped at their leach site. Their building facilities are well under way, and it is a combined effort from many teams that achieved these results. The Long Canyon gold deposit is located along the eastern flank of the Pequop mountains in northeastern Nevada and is situated in Elko County with elevations ranging between 5,600 ft. to 7,800 ft. It is easily accessed from Interstate 80 at the Oasis/Montello exit 378. The Project is a multi-million ounce, high-grade oxide, open-pit deposit.
In addition, it was almost two months ago that Newmont celebrated their 95th anniversary of being in business, since May 2, 1921. “This anniversary is a testament to Newmont’s enduring success” said Gary Goldberg, President and Chief Executive Officer. Making operations safer and more efficient has also been a number one priority. Improving environmental, social and governance practices, Newmont was named the mining industry’s sustainability leader by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index in 2015. The Company has also improved female and national representation in its leadership ranks, and maintained long-standing shareholder support for its governance and compensation systems
Newmont is a leading gold and copper producer. The Company employs approximately 27,000 employees and contractors, with the majority working at managed operations in the United States, Australia, Ghana, Peru, Indonesia and Suriname.
