Some Nevada residents may be eligible for a refund through the Senior Tax Assistance Rebate Program. This statewide program refunds a portion of the property tax paid by eligible senior citizens on their primary residence.
The filing period to participate in the program ends September 30, 2016.
To qualify:
• You must be at least 65 years old as of June 30, 2015. Your spouse can be any age.
• Household income cannot exceed 200% of the federal poverty level, $23,540 for singles and $31,860 for couples, income adjusted based on the number of individuals living in the household.
• You must have owned and lived in your primary residence for at least one year at the time of application.
• You must own only one property.
• Your liquid assets and those of your spouse cannot exceed $150,000.
• Should an applicant’s residence have an assessed value of $500,000 or more, a credit report will be pulled to verify no mortgages exist on other properties.
Refunds will be up to a maximum of $500 and will be mailed by the end of 2016.
