Elko police report Monday that Elko District Attorney Mark Torvinen has been identified as the victim of a car crash into an urgent care facility in Elko. According to officials, officers responded with medical personnel to a call around 3:00 p.m. that a car had crashed into a building at Pioneer Urgent Care on 12th and Silver Streets in Elko.
According to Police Chief Ben Reed, Mark Torvinen’s vehicle nudged the edge of the wall of the Pioneer Urgent Care building, when trying to see the doctor. Employees of the clinic had discovered an unresponsive male slumped over in the vehicle. Medical staff determined the man had no vital signs and began CPR and called 911. The man was transported via ambulance to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital and was pronounced dead at the emergency room. Cause of death is currently unknown, but all signs currently indicate that Mr. Torvinen passed away from medical related causes and there are no indications of foul play.
Mr. Torvinen was 64-year-old. Locals will remember him for cases prosecuted in his court. With Toni Fratto and Kody Patten, in the murder of Micaela Costanzo, in court on January 12th, 2012 for Toni Fratto. And also more recently in the case of the Wendover Casino thief, Tony Vera.
