The new Mayor, Daniel Corona, thanked Cathy Durham for helping him find kids willing to be part of a new youth city council. Cathy has been for many years a West Wendover teacher, teaching 11th grade US History and 12th grade Government. She made a presentation to the Council before the resolution Creating and Providing for the West Wendover Youth City Council Advisory Board, Establishing its Bylaws, was adopted.

In her presentation Cathy said “…I sat down numerous times with Daniel(Corona, the Mayor) to see how kids can get involved with how our country and our government operate… Learn when you are young, Own it when you are older …It is vital to teach our kids the importance and the value of a country that allows us to  be involved but require us to be informed. The rules, the policies, the Laws, that get passed in the next few years will impact their lives for much longer than it will impact ours. We need to make sure that they have a good grasp of what’s going on. And I think that this council(Youth City council) is a great opportunity for the kids to achieve, not only awareness, but also  a sense of belonging in this community. It is a great place to start.
