The West Wendover Boys’ basketball team had two league game this past weekend and were able to win both. First was Silver Stage on Friday night. The team came out fast and was able to hit shots. Silver Stage did create problems for them though. They have a kid who is 6’7’’ and probably 265 lbs. It was a defensive match up problem for Wendover since their biggest guy is 6’1’’. That kid ended up with 22 points against the wolverines. Friday the team got Senior Saul Palacios back as he has been struggling with shin splints. Saul ended the game with 32 points and 6 rebounds. It is a completely different team with Saul on the floor. Then Wendover can really stretch defenses out. “We were able to get other players involved Eric Correa and Eduardo Gonzalez both had 12 and Armando Gonzalez-Haro had 11 points. We ended up winning 83-57”
Saturday was a much tougher game against Yerington. They are a very good team with a couple of players that can really play basketball. Wendover came out and battled and led 12-11 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter Yerington out scored us 23-17 and led the Wolverines at the half 34-29. Wendover made some defensive adjustments and were able to get going in the third quarter and took the lead 48-45 at the end of the third quarter with a buzzer beater three from Saul Palacios. The fourth quarter was played evenly and the Wolverines were able to get the win 64-60. It was a balanced scoring game with four players in double figures. Saul Palacios led Wendover with 22, Eric Cerna and Eric Correa each had 14, and Luis Esparza had 12 points. Wendover will play Incline and North Tahoe this next weekend at home. It is senior night and the teamthe Boys Basketball have nine seniors on the varsity team.
