Drone Demo for Wells Band Summer Youth
Employees from Newmont’s Long Canyon mine recently visited the Wells Band youth and provided them with a presentation on drone use in the mining industry. The kids found the interactive presentation and drone demo very intriguing!
Safety Share: Fireworks
Summer is here and that means barbecues, parades, and fireworks displays. Unfortunately, along with these festivities, often times comes with a trip to the emergency room though, especially during July. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 2016, at least four people died and over 11,000 were injured from fireworks-related incidents. The National Fire Protection Association also states that more fires are reported on July 4 than any other day of the year. High temperatures and dry conditions have put the state of Nevada on high-alert this summer. Please stay away from all consumer fireworks and enjoy fireworks at a public display conducted by professionals.

Long Canyon Community Engagement Team
Employees from our Long Canyon mine who are passionate about the local Wells and Wendover communities recently came together and established the Long Canyon Community Engagement Team. The team is focused on in-kind service and support to the local communities. The team recently participated in a cleanup of the Wells City Park, Wendover Elementary school, and the Wells Fairgrounds. Starting in July, the team will host bi-weekly breakfast and bake sale fundraisers at the mine site to raise money for the group to continue to help out in the communities when needed.
New GM brings 17 years mining and processing experience
Alysia Tringrove is Long Canyon’s new General Manager, filling the position vacated by Gordon Mountford as he recently transferred to the Carlin GM role. Alysia joined Newmont in January 2018 and spent her first few months learning about the Region, specifically Long Canyon operations, in preparation for serving as the site’s GM. With 17 years of experience in the mining and processing industries – recently as Vice President Mines and Materials for South32, Alysia is well-positioned to lead the Long Canyon team to continued success, building on their excellent work of recent years.
Leach pad expansion underway
Long Canyon Leach Pad Phase 2 is under construction. An early start to Phase 1 production and positive ore reconciliations have driven the construction of Phase 2 a year earlier than planned. The new expansion will allow for continued production through 2021. Mine Operations gave a big boost to construction by selfperforming the topsoil pre-stripping and crusher stockpile construction. AMES Construction was awarded the contract for the crushing and earthwork on the pad. The Phase 2 pad is approximately 1.5 million square feet and consists of a primary geomembrane synthetic liner, a secondary prepared subbase (low-perm clay liner), leak detection extensions, solution collection piping, permeable cover material, and a barren-line extension. Phase 2 will hold 12 million tons of leach ore when fully loaded.
