The Elko County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn the public about a scam. An Elko County Sheriff’s Office employee received a call from the Sheriff’s Office phone number claiming to be an agent from the IRS. This individual stated our employee failed to pay taxes and would be arrested. After speaking with the individual he stated he was going to use the Undersheriff’s name, badge number and office phone number to continue to scam others.
The IRS will not contact you via phone in regard to money owed. Also the Elko County Sheriff’s Office will not contact you via phone in regard to a warrant.
