Company recognized for military support and benefits
Newmont recently received the 2018 Extraordinary Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Award. The award was presented to Newmont for the company’s continued support of the military programs and benefits. Only companies who have received the ESGR Freedom Award are eligible for the Extraordinary Award, which Newmont received in 2010. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Newmont is proud to support our employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve and are honored to receive this recognition.
Newmont employees and mine sites recognized at Nevada Mining Association Annual Convention
Last month, eighteen Newmont employees received individual safety awards at the Nevada Mining Association’s Annual Convention. In addition to the individual awards, Newmont received six operator awards which are given to the top three mines in designated categories based on their safety rate. These awards celebrate the people that make an extraordinary effort to ensure all mine workers return home safely. Newmont also received an Excellence in Mine Reclamation Award – Concurrent Reclamation for the North Area Leach Phase I Closure Project at Carlin. This award recognizes the unique concurrent closure work on a large active leach pad where leach is being placed next to the closure area of the pad. Congratulations to all of the individuals and mine sites who received awards.
Miners “Dig” Pink campaign supports cancer research
During the month of October, Newmont Nevada’s Long Canyon mine is helping bring more awareness to breast cancer research through their Miners “Dig” Pink campaign. The site has a few different activities going on to raise funds for the cause including silent auctions, raffles, and donation lunches. In addition, the Long Canyon team has placed both pink and blue ribbons on haul trucks and employees are sporting new bright pink high-visibility work shirts. In mid- October, they had already raised over $10,000 to be donated to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

Safety Share: Is your car prepared for winter?
With winter weather just around the corner it is important to plan ahead and be prepared for the cold temperatures and hazardous driving conditions. Many of us take the time to winterize our homes, but what about our vehicles? Review these tips to get your car ready for winter driving conditions:
- Service the radiator and maintain antifreeze level; checktire tread or, replace tires with snow tires
- Keep gas tank full to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines
- Use a wintertime formula in your windshield washer
- Prepare a winter emergency kit to keep in your car in caseyou become stranded which includes blankets, food and water, booster cables, flares, bag of sand or cat litter (for traction), tire pump, flashlight, first aid kit, cell phone charger, and a compass
