West Wendover High School senior, Jordan Eveleth, and junior, Rebecca Wahlstrom, were selected for the Northeast Nevada Honor Band. The concert occurred in Elko on February 5th with the guest conductor Dr. Andy Collinsworth. After blind auditions in November (2019), the students practiced four pieces with guidance from the WWHS Band Instructor Mr. Barker. February 4-5 the band members came together to practice the pieces Black Forest Overture composed by Michael Sweeney, Hypnotic Fireflies by Brian Balmages, Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, arr. Frank Ticheli, and Three Klezmer Miniatures by Philip Sparke.

Dr. Collinsworth is a saxophonist who received the 2014 John Swain Outstanding University Music Educator Award and in 2011 the Don Schmeer/Byron Hoyt Band Educator Award for his contribution to music education by the California Music Educators Association.

This is the second consecutive year West Wendover students have been selected to participate in this extraordinary music program.  Jordan and Rebecca shared that they enjoyed this significant learning opportunity.

WWHS Band Instructor Mr. Barker said to the High Desert Advocate: “Jordan is a senior who plays the alto saxophone, and Rebecca is a junior who plays the bass clarinet. They both had to audition and be adjudicated, and were selected to join the best high school musicians in Northeast Nevada to put on a concert on February 5th. I am proud of both them and what they have accomplished!”
