An homicide suspect in a double shooting in Elko last week has been arrested in Sparks.
Sparks police say federal agents from the U.S. Marshals Service, Reno police and Washoe County sheriff’s office joined in the arrest of 30-year-old Austin William Himmelman of Elko shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
He was apprehended just north of U.S. Interstate 80 in the 2400 block of Victorian Avenue at the intersection of Prater Way near a Motel 6 and the Pony Express Motel.
Himmelman is wanted on a homicide warrant out of Elko in the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of 32-year-old Matthew Allen Baze at a trailer park. A woman also was shot and is recovering from her wounds.
So far, Sparks police say Himmelman has only been charged with possession of a gun by a prohibited person but an investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.
Washoe County jail records don’t yet show Himmelman as an inmate there and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
The High Desert Advocate marked him as Armed and Dangerous on their website, on January 11th.
“The Elko Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement partners from the Regional Crime Suppression Unit for their assistance in this case,” stated an announcement Tuesday afternoon from EPD.
On the Advocate website on Monday: One person is dead, and police are searching for one suspect in connection with a shooting in Elko, Nevada a few days ago.
According to Elko Police, last Thursday, January 7th, two victims were shot around 10:15 a.m. at a trailer park in the south part of town.

They both were transported to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital the local Elko local hospital before Baze was flown to Salt Lake City (probably the U Hospital) for advanced, intensive care.
But Baze died from his wounds the next day Friday, police said. The female victim had surgery for a bullet wound and is now recovering.
Police have identified, but not yet located, a suspect in the shooting: 30-year-old Austin William Himmelman of Elko. Police say he is white, 5’10” tall, weighs 220 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.
Himmelman should be considered armed and dangerous, said Elko PD. Investigators were initially looking for two “vehicles of interest,” but they have since been located.
