UPDATE: Since our article of February 26th, 2021, and the H.D. Advocate talk and complaint on behalf of West Wendover Town citizens the previous week, to Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen ‘s staff, West Wendover Nevada finally had Vaccination Clinics in West Wendover (at the local Health Clinic and at the Peppermill Casino)organized by Elko County Health Department.
And later this past March 24th and 31st in Wendover Utah, organized by Tooele County Health Department.
On Friday, February 19, 2021, all the teachers and staff of the West Wendover Schools had their second vaccination at the West Wendover Middle school.
The first one, in January, they all had to travel to Elko. This time, three Elko County School District Nurses came to West Wendover and were assisted by one West Wendover Smith’s Pharmacist’s Alan, who donated his time for that purpose.
Most of the staff did get their second shot, about 86 people, this Friday, February 19, 2021.
The nurses were Bobbi Shanks(BSN, RN, NCSN) the Nurse in charge, Cami Carr(RN), and Skylar Basanez (BSN), School Nurse.
The High Desert Advocate also asked Alan the Pharmacist (not wanted to give his last name) why was it so hard for locals, West Wendover residents, to get an appointment at the online Kroeger site (never has an opening) for the West Wendover Smith’s Pharmacy, but people from out of town, from Salt Lake City, or anywhere else could walk-in, and get vaccinated. Many locals had contacted the Advocate and complained about it, in the past few weeks. We were told that Kroeger’s policy was to vaccinate anybody, for more than a month now, 65 and over. The High Desert Advocate asked if the State of Nevada was ok with this, since these were and are vaccines provided by the State of Nevada, and each State get a restricted amount, compare to its population, and each county also by population. So Elko county get a lot less shots than Las Vegas area, or Reno-Sparks Area. We were told that yes it was ok by the State, both by the pharmacist and a staff member from Senator Rosen’s office who talked to the Advocate. But we were also told, contrary to Kroeger’s policy, that somebody on the Frontline, as written in the Vaccination “Play Book”, should be vaccinated at Smith no matter the age.
