The Lady Wolverines got their golf season off to a great start this past Thursday in Elko. Junior Kayla Jones took first place individual and Sarah Childress shot a personal best on the first day of the season to take 4th place individual. The tournament was held at the Ruby View golf course in Elko with teams from Elko, Spring Creek, Battle Mountain, Wells, White Pine and West Wendover.
This year’s team is a young but upcoming team with 3 returning players and 2 new players joining the team. Although the girls are always playing with winning a championship in mind, they know that this year is a rebuilding year after graduating 2 key seniors Rebecca Wahlstrom and Luna Gonzalez and also losing Junior player Dulce Gonzalez to girl’s soccer.
This year’s team consists of Juniors Sarah Childress, Moriah Haney and Kayla Jones, Sophomore and first time player Norma Alvarado and Freshman Monica Torres. Mrs. Durham is really excited about this year’s team as they have both experienced players and new players who seem to be picking up the game quite quickly.
