By Chris Melville, West Wendover City Manager
Last Monday May 1, 2023, West Wendover Animal Control Officer Alex Peterson received his 20 year service award by City Manager Chris Melville.
Officer Peterson began working for the City on April 21, 2003 as a Police Dispatcher and in May of 2004 transferred to the position of Animal Control Officer, the position he continues to hold today. When asked by City Manager Melville if he could believe it had been 20 years already, Officer Peterson replied with a laugh, “How time does fly”.
City Manager Melville commented when asked about Alex’s award, “I am so pleased that Alex has served the community now for 20 years and I hope he continues that service for many more years to come.
The city and community could not ask for a better officer to be in this position. Every day Alex is highly dedicated to his work assisting the community with animal control issues. He does it professionally and with the utmost of care for the animals and the people which it involves. He is highly respected and looked up to in the community. Come to think of it, you know in most animated movies about dogs, you will see the dogs running in horror whenever they sight a city’s animal control officer and their truck. In our case, I honestly believe that most dogs that see Alex and interact with him feel like he is their best friend, as if he is carrying some type of dog ice cream in that truck. Alex might disagree, but according to my dog and the other local neighborhood dogs where I live, its definitely true.”
In addition to his service plaque, Officer Peterson also received a service pin designed with the City Seal. The pin reflects the employee’s years of service with a star for every five years they have served. As well, he received a $25 Smith’s Food Store Gift Card.
Thank you, Officer Peterson, for being an important member of the great city team of people who are dedicated to our community.
