ELKO, Oct. 19, 2015 – Celebrating the conclusion of its sixth annual Legacy Fund Employee Giving Campaign, Newmont Mining Corporation announced today that the latest company-matched pledges represent an all-time Legacy Fund high of $2.44 million. Of this, over 71 percent of Newmont Nevada employees pledged $1.22 million to be deducted from their 2016 paychecks to assist over 230 non-profits and community organizations across northern Nevada next year.
The Legacy Fund campaign continues to set new annual records since it began in 2011. During that inaugural year, 54 percent of Newmont Nevada employees donated a total of $650,000.
“Newmont employees continue to display their commitment to the communities that they live and work near – as shown by another record year of contributions to non-profit agencies throughout northern Nevada,” said Tom Kerr, Newmont’s North American Regional Senior Vice President.
The Newmont Legacy Fund program encompasses a direct, employee giving campaign and an endowment fund to assist in meeting future community social service needs. “I continue to be astounded by the generosity of Newmont employees throughout Nevada. As I travel to each corner of our operating region, the non-profit community emphasizes how grateful they are to each Newmont employee in allowing their organizations to serve those in need,” said Rhonda Zuraff, Director of Communications and External Relations for Newmont’s North American operations.
This year, Newmont is also proud to be celebrating the progress of its Endowment Fund which has grown to $1.1 million. The premise behind the Endowment Fund is to help support the northern Nevada communities for many years to come. Newmont has been in Nevada more than 50 years, and this endowment fund represents the Legacy that Newmont will leave in its host communities.
“I speak on behalf of all of Newmont in sharing my gratitude and thanks to our employees for their amazing generosity and to the team of hard-working and dedicated campaign coordinators who continue to make the Legacy Fund a great success,” commented Tom Kerr. “Their commitment to maintaining healthy and vibrant communities is to be commended.”
