The winter season for West Wendover Wolverine sports continues into the new year with basketball.
The girls varsity team is doing phenomenally well this season, with a standing of 13-3. Their first game of the year on January 2 at Battle Mountain was an excellent victory, with a score of 50-39. Their next game on January 7 was a match against their local rival team, the Wendover, Utah Wildcats. It led to a loss, with a final score of 36-48. The Ladycat’s own standing is a respectable 7-5.
On the ninth, the Wolverine girls traveled to Yerington high school and beat them by five points with a score of 36-41. Their next game will be at Silver Stage on Friday, January 15.
The boys varsity team’s first game of the year on January 2 was a close match at Battle Mountain, but they lost with a score of 47-55. Their next game on the sixth at Rowland Hall-St. Marks was closer yet, losing by only four points with a score of 54-58. Their next game against Yerington at West Wendover was another loss, with a score of 74-58. The team has a standing of eight wins with eight losses. Their next game will be at Silver Stage on Friday, January 15.
The boys junior varsity team is undefeated this season, and carries on to the new year. Their first game of the year on January 6 was against Rowland Hall-St. Marks, which was a victory with 45-34. Their next game on the ninth at Yerington was another win with a score of 57-31. On the eleventh they beat Grantsville by five points with a score of 55-50.
