Wells Rural Electric Co. (WREC) joins hundreds of electric cooperatives nationwide today in honoring the men and women who dedicate themselves to making sure we all have the electricity required to power our daily lives. The second Monday of every April is National Lineman Appreciation Day and WREC is proud to recognize electric linemen for the services they perform around the clock in dangerous conditions to keep power flowing and protect the public’s safety.
“WREC’s core mission to provide our owners with safe, reliable, cost-based electricity wouldn’t be possible without the work done by our line crews,” WREC CEO Clay Fitch said. “We’re proud of their dedication to not only their excellence during times of need but to their day-to-day dedication to our preventative maintenance plan and continually working to among the best in their profession.”
WREC’s eight linemen maintain more than 1,300 miles of energized line running through more than 10,000 square miles of service territory. Despite some abnormally harsh weather conditions, the average WREC owner was without power for less than a day in 2015, meaning they were energized more than 99.8 percent of the year.
WREC invites its owners to participate in National Lineman Appreciation Day by taking the time to thank a lineman for the work they do either in person or by using the hashtag #thankalineman on social media.
