ALFRED A. COHEN

Al died unexpectedly on Monday April 25th, from a Short battle with illnesses. Al was born March 10th in Boston Massachusetts as Alfred R Cutting and was later, at age eight, adopted by Named Cohen and live with them until age 17 when he joined the US Navy. He was stationed off the coast of Italy and Spain until he was called for duty to support the Cuban Blockade off the coast of Cuba. He received an Honorable Discharge.

He lived and worked in Florida before moving to Reno NV. He worked as a cook and then a bartender. In 1981 he met Maureen Fitzgerald his Life Love. With his Life Love and a wrestles heart they wanted to move on, so they came to West Wendover where he worked as a bartender for Silversmith, Stateline and Red Garter Casino’s till he started his own business (Al’s Fix It). He was supposed to fix just large appliances but ended up fixing anything that was needed. If it was broke he fixed it.

In 1988 Being kind hearted, compassionate and the need to help others, Al joined the Wendover UT Volunteer Fire Department. Then in 1993 He switched to the new West Wendover Fire Department. With same kind heartedness, compassion and love of helping others, he was extremely instrumental in building the West Wendover Fire Department into one of the best and highly trained departments in Nevada.  With his tireless commitment and love for the Fire Service he would drive 45 minutes from Pilot Valley to respond to fires and accidents. He is survived by Maureen Fitzgerald. His Life Love of 27 beautiful years. Son Ron Cohen and Wife Jenna Cohen, Grandchildren Joel Cohen and Emily Ruff. Family Kathleen Fitzgerald and Maggie Fitzgerald.

Al and Maureen, his love for life, would like to specially thank, Chief Jeff Knudtson, Who made it very clear you were his best friend. He would move a mountain for you. He loved going on adventures with you, like going in the desert with metal detectors. He wanted to get well so he could go again, he enjoyed lunches with you. He new he could just call and he trusted you with his life. And another special thanks to Gary Corona for helping on that horrible day. Every Decision I couldn’t make, you stepped up and made them for me. They were exactly what He wanted. He knows you were humbled and honored. Thanks’ to the West Wendover Fire Dept. for all the help and support.

Also Special Thanks to Janet the Elko VA Out Patient Nurse, Olyna Doren his Home Aid Nurse from New Horizons Home Care. Louis Sr. He loved trading barb’s with you and the rest of the Gonzales family. And special thanks for all the support from Cassandra Rodd, Kim Mendenhall, Deedee Elenz Castner, Jacque and Kate Baratcart, Vanessa and Jose Rodriques, Margerita Rosales (he always called her my Little Friend) and to the To Many to name Friends.
