White Pine County Commission Meeting
May 25, 2016
Public Comment
Represent from the BLM spoke about new proposed oil and gas leases. BLM is required to put up for sale oil and gas leases each year. They have 41 parcels this year, totaling 82,121.56 acres. The public has until June 10 to comment.
Burton Hilton (County assessor )commented that there is a $1.25 per acres lease tax. Most people pay, but some refuse and I have no recourse available to me.
Road Department
There seems to be a speeding problem (not me) on Georgetown Road. It is not posted at this time, which means 50mph is the limit, this is about to change to posted 25 mph. Drive safely!
Public Hearing – Ordnance 03-23-2016 pertaining to off road vehicles.
Mike Coster – there is an idea afloat that each town or city have their own ordnance and not a county wide ordnance. Having that been said this may be a dead item.
Terry McIntosh representing the High Desert Trail Blazers pointed out the state does not require insurance to drive a one seater ATV and if the county does riders from out of the county will not participate in any events in White Pine County.
Bunny Hill wants this ordnance to pass because she was hit by an ATV. Bunny did not file a report. I also have been hit by an underage operator. I could have sued the parents for damages, but chose not to. I did file a report, because I felt the parents should be aware of their children’s actions.
No Action taken
The resignation of Fire Chief Brett Waters was accepted. Brett’s last day was May 31. Brett will be greatly missed. I do hope his plan for training will remain in place.
William Ward was appointed Interim Fire Chief. Mr. Ward will be a volunteer and receive no pay.
Gary Perea voiced his regrets for the resignation, but understood.
Mike Coster and Richard Howe were disappointed to hear this on the street and not notified by the person receiving the notice. (Communications are not very good in the county)
Proposal for recruitment of a new Fire Chief was approved with some objections from Richard Howe. Richard felt the commission should wait until the study was completed. The study should be complete in 120 days and may have recommendations that could affect the Fire Chief position. Mike Coster we are rushing this. Carol McKenzie did think it fair to have the interim fire chief to volunteer his time for 4 plus months with no pay. Dan Watt states it is hard to hire someone with unknowns is hard.
Approved
The proposal to hire Brett Waters for Professional Services was tabled. This contract was to pay Brett $50. per hour to consult . The was no time limit.
Elizabeth informed the commission the budget is $182,340. defect spending, if this spending trend continues there will be no money in the ending fund balance in four years.
Once again I encourage you to call the commissioners and give them your thoughts, they need it.

Ely City Council meeting
May 26, 2016
City Administrator – We are looking into have our land fill up graded to asbestos approved .
The dog park proposal was discussed , the park on Orson was eliminated as a option. A suggestion was made to have it at the stables.
There was a question put on Face Book about the dog park and the consensus was no dog park, put the money in to the roads. Sounds like a good plan to me.
