The “Salute to Veterans” sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol  was held on Monday,  November 12 in the evening at the Brinkman Service Club on the Wendover Air Base. The public was invited free of charge. Every year the event pays tribute to all members of the Armed Forces, those who are serving, those who have served, and to all the families.

This year the Honored Veteran was Wendover Native, Private Melvin Stewart, U. S. Army.  A brief of his military service was  provided by his niece Melissa Stewart.  The program featured patriotic music, short speeches, and this year also included the enlistment into the U. S. Marine Corps of CAP cadet Manuel Hernandez.  One of the highlights of the evening was the playing of the Anthems of all the Branches of the Armed Forces when those with ties to the particular service were invited to stand and join in singing the service song.

The youngest CAP Cadet, Jair Palafox assisted Mr. Stewart in cutting the ceremonial cake and following the cake cutting refreshments were served.
