The West Wendover Girl Basketball, under the coaching of ex-basketball star Danika (Sharp) Overturf, garnered a well coveted award, the Academic State Champions  2019 by the NIAA(Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association) in the Girl Basketball Class 2A. “Our varsity girls basketball team got an awesome award from the NIAA.  They were awarded the highest Grade Point Average in all of the State of Nevada 2A.This is the first time in our school history, we have been presented this award.  It shows the true meaning of being a student athlete.” said Athletic Director Tyler Peterson.

“We also awarded some all league and all state for our boys and girls basketball teams:

Eric Correa was awarded 2A All-League MVP

Jose A Gonzalez-Haro and Tommy Kelly was awarded 2A All-League 1st Team

Jesus Gonzalez-Haro was awarded 2A All-League 2nd Team

Luis Esparza was awarded 2A All-League Honorable Mention

Eric Correa and Jose A Gonzalez Haro was awarded 2A All-State 1st Team

Tommy Kelly was awarded 2A All-State 2nd Team

Leonela Covarrubias was awarded 2A All-League 1st Team

Hannah Holm was awarded 2A All-League Honorable Mention

Leonela Covarrubia was awarded 2A All-State Honorable Mention.
