A Wells man was sentenced to life in prison twice by Elko District Judge Nancy Porter Monday.
Ron Wheeler a former guard at the Wells Honor Camp was sentenced to two concurrent life terms of sexual assault on a child and lewdness with a child under 14 years by Porter.
The department of parole and probation recommended the judge sentence life with parole eligibility after 35 years for sexual assault, and life in prison with minimum parole eligibility after 10 years for lewdness, and for the sentences to run concurrently.
Wheeler’s attorney John Ohlson of Reno argued that his client be placed on bail before his sentence begins. Porter rejected that petition and ordered Wheeler to be remanded to the Nevada Prison System.
The sexual assault charge has a minimum parole eligibility after 35 years, and the lewdness charge has a minimum parole eligibility after 10.

Wheeler was convicted by an Elko county Jury last November.
He was first arrested on those charges in June 2010 after first being as a missing person by his family.
