The Kindness of Neighbors

We have always been proud of our home town.

For all of our and its fault Wendover is a place where no one should stay cold or hungry.

The charity this community shows toward its needy and for needy transients is truly wonderful.

But in this bitter, bitter winter there may be some who need help who never asked it before.

It is there call a church, and out here in the high desert it doesn’t matter which church, they will help.

Take a gander at our thrift store for warm clothes, there is also a food bank there.

By the way while the shelves are not bare proprietor Frank Sharp tells us he is running low on meat and soups.

We know that once the word gets out he won’t be anymore.

Because this town is special.

It shouldn’t be.

Legalized gambling is supposed to foster all the worst in us: greed, selfishness, laziness.

We suppose it could.

We suppose it does in other places.

Here it doesn’t.

Maybe it is because living in the middle of nowhere we have come to depend on one another.

Who has among us has not had to rely on the kindness of neighbors, strangers and passer byes for a favor or a helping hand?

Asking for help may be hard but not as hard as this winter.

So ask and in the future when times may be a little warmer and the cupboard full remember to pay it forward.

It is kind of Wendover’s unofficial motto.

Ever quite some time Reno attorney John Ohlson has teased the news media that Toni fratto’s diaries would be almost as big a bombshell as her original confession.

Well they weren’t.

We were asked again what we believed about the case, what was the motive.

It would be nice to have a reason but we fear there isn’t one.

Evil is evil and requires no justification.

We do believe that neither Toni Fratto nor kody Patten could have committed their horrible crime without each other.

And we also believe that justice was served.

We also bid welcome home to Danika Sharp a daughter of Wendover.

It makes our heart swell to see one of own do so well in that big world.
