At last West Wendover City meeting of February 2, 2021, two new projects were approved, plus the City is going ahead with the West Wendover City Center.
The first one is to be a Family business by the Montes family. To be called Family C-Store (fruits, vegetables, liquor and wine, etc…), at the old Buckshot store, at 821 at the Bomarc Center on Florence Way. The council approved the liquor license for Jorge Eduardo Montes, the owner for the new store.
In an other Business, the Council also approved the aesthetics and conceptual site plan for a Maverick Convenience Store and Fuel Station, also located on Florence Way, at 1020 N. Florence Way.
Mr. Erik Anderson, the Planning Project Manager for the Maverick master plan, out of Salt Lake City Utah, addressed the council. The council had previously received a packet highlighting the project details(see story about it), so the presentation was short and approved readily by them(city councilmen and councilwomen).
About the Maverick project, some council people asked more details from the Project Manager Mr. Anderson. One question was about the old building on the premises, “yes we are demolishing it and starting from scratch” was the answer. The other question was about truck drivers showers, the answer was “no, not right now, we are not planning for commercial drivers showers but we are giving them snacks. One more question was about “next to housekeeping, is this to be a locker room men and women…” no, and about a large area kitchen service, the answer from Mr. Anderson was that in fact the very large area kitchen service of about 6,000. square feet will be for a bonfire Grill type fresh food, like pizzas, tacos, burritos, etc…
At the same meeting, the City is giving the green light to the City Manager Chris Melville accepting the Grant Award of $1,175,000. (That’s 1 Million and hundred seventy five thousand dollars) from the US Economic Development Adm. for the West Wendover Downtown Infrastructure phase I (City Center).
The Mayor and all the city councilmen/women thanked and congratulated the City Manager for all his work and efforts toward it, then passed the motion.
An Elko County Commissioner, Wilde Brough was listening to the meeting. He also said “that Elko County knows you are over here and would like to be part of you and you are part of us””It is(WWendover) quite a town and your city manager is well known of Elko County and throughout the State… …”.
