Wendover’s Civil Air Patrol Cadets hosted a somber and respectful Veterans’ Day ceremony.
Led by Commander Alan Rowley the CAP Cadets are made up of Wendover and West Wendover Junior and Senior High School students.
The Salute to Veterans held by the Historic Wendover Airfield on November 11th and brought many veterans, families, and visitors to the Airport for the Event, Rowley said. The event began when the colors were presented by cadets from the 88th Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol. Members of the Color Guard were Cadet Staff Sergeant Shylo Haycock, Cadet Senior Airman Vanessa De Jesus, Cadet Senior Airman Jeffrey Yadon, and Cadet Technical Sergeant Ricardo De Jesus. Along with the National Colors, the flags of each of the five military services were presented. Following the National Anthem sung by Scott Klismith, each of the service flags with the service song was recognized.
Members of the audience were invited to gather at the service flag to honor their family member. Carrying the Army flag at the ceremony was Cadet Airman First Class Nikolai Aranda. Pictured carrying service flags are Cadet Airman First Class Jorge Badillo and Cadet Airman First Class Ubaldo Carmona, Jr. The largest group of family members were Army, and pictured are Mr. Tony Martin and Mrs. Amber Ghiggia with flag bearer Cadet Kristopher Ghiggia.
The audience joined in singing “God Bless America” and just before the colors were retired, Taps was played. Following the ceremony, refreshments were served.
”Thank you for helping to make this a success.” Rowley said. ”We had a large crowd and we received many positive comments about the event.”
