Spotty internet and phone connections in Wendover over the week were not caused by a cyber attack but a simple malfunction said Centracom internet maven Nate Palmer.
“Ok, I got the correct information now. We didn’t have a DDoS attack, but instead our equipment that is installed to detect it malfunctioned,” Palmer wrote in a Tuesday afternoon email. “ Between that malfunction and a network card failure we are experiencing random connectivity issues. New equipment is ordered and will be installed tomorrow to replace these which should restore all services.”
True to his word internet service was restored by Wednesday afternoon.
Centracom had believed that the company was under a cyber attack.
“Not much to say, we experienced a DDOS attack. Our system responded to protect the network by shutting down while we implemented proper filters to eliminate it.” Palmer wrote in a Monday note. “IP phones took longer to get back on because to the filters the voice traffic looks similar to DDOS traffic. So it took some fine-tuning before the voice traffic was back up.”
